Mid-Summer Grizzlies Mailbag: Olympic musings, tax-dodging worries and more
Will Ja Morant have a shot at the 2028 Olympics? Chris Herrington says, “The ‘small lead guard’ cohort is crowded, but if Morant stays healthy and out of trouble he can reassert his spot at the top of that list. He’s arguably the greatest talent.” (Benjamin Naylor/The Daily Memphian)

Chris Herrington has covered the Memphis Grizzlies, in one way or another, since the franchise’s second season in Memphis, while also writing about music, movies, food and civic life. As far as he knows, he’s the only member of the Professional Basketball Writers Association who is also a member of a film critics group and has also voted in national music critic polls for Rolling Stone and the Village Voice (RIP). He and his wife have two kids and, for reasons that sometimes elude him, three dogs.
Now that the Memphis Grizzlies’ offseason is over – OK, fine, I called a lid even before the team did – it’s time for my annual Mid-Summer Mailbag, which is, of course, a two-parter.
This first installment focuses mostly on topics related to the offseason and summer hoops. Next week’s second part will field questions that look forward a little more to the season to come.
Before we wade into some offseason debriefing, let’s ease in with a few questions related to the topic of the moment.
