Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. He is host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" from 9-11 a.m. M-F on 92.9 FM. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.

An hour before tip, Katie Taylor is at her position in the lobby of FedExForum, steering fans toward a booth where they can scribble homemade signs for the last game of the regular season.

“Go Grizz,” is a popular sign.

“I love Ja,” is another favorite.

Caden Brown, 9, is from Greenville, Mississippi. This is his first Grizzlies game ever.

“Do a good job,” he writes. “I hope you do.”

So some fans still have hope.

Do the rest of you?
