Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. He is host of "The Geoff Calkins Show" from 9-11 a.m. M-F on 92.9 FM. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.

When the Grizzlies host the New Orleans Pelicans Wednesday night at FedExForum, they will be tipping off their 25th season in Memphis.

The Memphis Grizzlies have been around as long as the Harry Potter movie franchise, which also debuted in 2001. They’ve been around as long the iPod and iTunes.

It is hard to imagine the city without the Grizz.

Grit and Grind were just words in the dictionary before Tony Allen and the Grizzlies claimed them for Memphis.
