BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Sincere Parker stood near the edge of the court at Bartow Arena with his hands resting on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.

A little more than 12 minutes remained in Memphis’ Thursday night matchup against UAB in Birmingham, Alabama, when the 6-foot-3 shooting guard looked coach Penny Hardaway in his eyes and told him he needed to come out of the game for rest.

Hardaway then did something he’d done consistently since late July of last offseason, about three months after Parker first committed to play for him as a transfer from McNeese State.

He patted Parker on the back and told him to keep going.
