The time to “pull the trigger” on opening a specialty grocery store in Silo Square arrived last week against the backdrop of the Federal Reserve possibly lowering interest rates soon.
South Point Grocery is coming to the Southaven mixed-use development in 2025, “maybe July or August,” Silo Square developer Brian Hill said. In the meantime, Hill said he expects lower borrowing costs to help make construction more affordable. Policymakers’ next opportunity to lower interest rates will come at a Sept. 17-18 meeting.
As for the specialty grocery store, plans to locate one in Silo Square has been in the works for years. Two years ago, the owners of High Point and South Point grocery stores in Memphis reached out to Hill. But the timing was off.
