Eighth MATA employee tests positive for coronavirus
A dispatcher with the Memphis Area Transit Authority has tested positive for the coronavirus, becoming the eighth MATA employee to be infected by the virus.
The dispatcher’s last day of work was July 8 and MATA was notified about the test results on July 12. The employee had been given personal protective equipment and deep cleaning and sanitation procedures were followed.
On July 8, MATA confirmed that a MATAplus operator tested positive for COVID-19. That employee’s last day of work was June 16.
The first MATA employee to test positive was a maintenance worker whose last day of work was March 30 and who tested positive on April 6.
Since then, three bus drivers, a trolley driver and a trolley mechanic have also tested positive for the coronavirus.
