Judge McCalla rules against reopening bars
Limited-service restaurants were ordered closed on July 8, though they were allowed to serve takeout food and alcohol. Beale Street restaurants were exempt from closure because they’re in a historic district. That location gives them full-service restaurant licenses by default, even if they serve 50% or more alcohol. Bars will remain closed for now, Judge Jon P. McCalla rules in his order denying their request to reopen after being closed by the Health Department in early July.
