Latest test results’ positivity rate near 17%

Shelby County Health Department reported 337 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Shelby County.

Of the 2,003 reported tests Sunday, more than 16.8% were positive.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Shelby County since early March is 23,529. The Health Department estimates about 18,784 people have recovered county-wide.

Tennessee Department of Health reported 2,127 new cases statewide, and an additional eight deaths. A total of 1,223 Tennesseans’ deaths have been COVID-related.

No new deaths were reported Sunday, and the number remains is 301. Shelby County Health Department noted the number is one less than the day prior because a probable death was incorrectly classified.


Health official: COVID-19 surge hospital doesn’t have to be our destiny


The most recent hospital data shows 90% of staffed beds are utilized in the metro-area. There are 41 ICU beds available and 91% of staffed beds are in use. Of those in ICU beds, 33% have COVID-19. An additional 15% are being monitored for possible symptoms.
