Six Collierville residents are interested in one alderman seat, setting up a likely runoff following the Nov. 3 election.

Additionally, two incumbent aldermen and Mayor Stan Joyner are up for re-election. While the incumbent aldermen are expected to draw opposition, Joyner has no challengers as Thursday’s noon deadline to qualify approaches.

Most residents running are interested in serving the remaining two years in Alderman Position 4, the seat formerly occupied by the late Tom Allen. The veteran alderman died earlier this summer leading to an election to fill the final two years added to the the November ballot. 

If no candidate wins more than 50% of the votes cast, a runoff between the top two finishers will be held, according to town ordinances. Collierville’s last runoff was in June 2003, when both former aldermen Jimmy Lott and Justin Mitchell won their spots on the board. 

Collierville leaders are scheduled to appoint an interim alderman for Allen’s vacancy on Monday. That appointee will serve until the individual is sworn in.

In Position 3, Alderman John Worley, who is seeking his third term as alderman, is likely to have an opponent. Harold Booker, who originally filed for Allen’s vacant Position 4 seat, withdrew that petition and pulled for Position 3 on Tuesday.

While nine people pulled for Position 4, only six intend to run for the two years remaining in Allen’s term. As of Tuesday afternoon, William Boone, Alan Douglas, Connor Lambert, Missy Marshall, Rick Rout and Scott Rozanski had qualified for the race. Greg Cotton, chairman of the Planning Commission, also pulled a petition but decided he will not run.

Greg Frazier pulled for all three positions on the November ballot, but eventually filed for Position 5. He will face Alderman John Stamps, who is seeking his second full term.
