Hospital data improves; 4 new deaths reported in Shelby County
The Shelby County Health Department reported 87 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, Aug. 23, following 604 reported tests.
Since early March, 26,117 people in Shelby County have tested positive for coronavirus. The Health Department reported 22,569 individuals have recovered from the virus.
Four new coronavirus-related deaths were reported for a total of 363.
Hospital capacity has improved compared to prior days. As of 5 p.m. Saturday, 84% of acute-care beds in the metro area were used and 160 patients, 8%, were positive for COVID-19.
In the ICU, 84% of staffed beds are in use. About 28% of those in ICU, or 102 patients, have COVID-19. An additional four people in ICU are being monitored for coronavirus.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported 143,937 cases of COVID-19 – 1,854 additional compared to the day prior. As of Sunday, the state reported 1,567 coronavirus-related deaths.
There have been 104,054 recoveries in the state, an increase of 628 from the day before.
