Health Department reports 3,576 tests, less than 5.2% positive

Shelby County Health Department reported 183 new cases Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020, bringing the county-wide total to 31,227 since early March.

The new cases come from a reported 3,576 tests. The daily positivity rate is less than 5.2%.

Additionally, three new deaths were reported for a total of 457. An estimated 29,133 residents have recovered and 1,637 cases are active.

The most recent hospital data reported by the health department was from Friday afternoon, when 89% of staffed acute care beds were occupied. About 5% of those in acute care are being treated for COVID-19.

The health department reported 48 open intensive care unit beds, and ICUs in the metro area are at 89% capacity. About 15% of those in ICU are being treated for coronavirus, while an additional 14 people are being monitored for COVD-19 symptoms. 

The Tennessee Department of Health releases its data at 2 p.m. daily. Saturday it reported 1,437 new cases for a total of 190,891 since early March. It also reported a total of 2.374 deaths.
