Shelby County reports 3 COVID-19 deaths, 146 new cases

The Shelby County Health Department reported three more COVID-19 related deaths and 146 new cases on Saturday, Oct. 10.
Shelby County’s 146 new coronavirus cases came from 2,774 test results, yielding a 5.3% positivity rate. Test results are not reflective of the previous 24-hour period and include tests over multiple days.
The total number of deaths attributed to the coronavirus in Shelby County is now 530. The three deaths reported Saturday come one day after the Health Department updated its records to classify 33 deaths from August 15 to Oct. 1 as coronavirus related.
The Shelby County Health Department reported 32,916 total coronavirus cases and 530 deaths, classifying 30,895 cases as inactive/recovered. Active cases in Shelby County stand at 1,491, a slight increase from the 1,483 reported Friday.
There were 199 COVID-19 patients in Memphis area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Thursday, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. The Health Department will provide hospital information for Friday through Sunday in Monday’s daily update.
Of the 199 people hospitalized, 143 are in acute care beds, with 56 in intensive care unit beds.
Total hospital capacity for acute care beds is at 89% use, and ICU beds are at 91% occupancy. Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 7% of acute care patients and 17% of ICU patients.
