Shelby County reports 376 COVID-19 cases, more than 5,000 tests.

Shelby County Health Department reported 376 new cases of coronavirus Sunday.

The total number of cases since early March in Shelby County is now 39,424.

Sunday’s cases come from a reported 5,061 tests. The daily positivity rate is slightly more than 7.4%.

Four new deaths were also reported, and a total of 587 have died with the virus.

The newly reported data comes one day after 17 cases were reported. Data entry has not caught up to Tennessee Department of Health’s IT upgrade last weekend.


State’s IT upgrade to blame for erratic COVID case numbers this week


Shelby County Health Department estimates 36,351 people have recovered, and 2,486 were active.

The most recent local hospital data is from Thursday at 5 p.m. Acute care was at 90% capacity, where 10% of patients were being treated for the virus.

There were 41 beds available in Memphis-area Intensive Care Units. Capacity was also at 90%. Of the beds occupied, 27% of patients were treated for COVID-19.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 3,636 new cases Sunday afternoon. The total since early March totals 281,851 . The state also reported five new fatalities and 3,595 people have died with the virus.

An estimated 250,818 people have recovered. Hospitalizations also decreased slightly. According to Sunday’s statewide report 1,490 people are being treated for COVID-19.
