Long-delayed Lakeland Commons gets approval for Phase 2
Lakeland Commissioner Richard Gonzales voted against the Lakeland Commons development Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020. “I think the folks in Lakeland are all about making our tax base a lot stronger,” Gonzales said. “That’s two or three parcels of land that will not collect a cent of tax, either sales tax for a retail facility or property tax. That’s a big concern for me.” (Mark Weber/The Daily Memphian)
Developer Vincent Smith had complained in recent months that the delays were making interested tenants nervous.
