Germantown Mayor Mike Palazzolo confirmed Monday that he plans to run for reelection in 2022, seeking his third term as the suburb’s elected leader.
“Yes, I am seeking reelection in 2022,” the mayor said in a text asking about his intentions. He did not elaborate on his reasons beyond the details in the text.
The announcement comes less than two weeks after three new aldermen were elected in the suburb. Those three — Sherrie Hicks in Position 3, Brian Ueleke in Position 4 and Jon McCreery in Position 5, seemed more in line with Palazzolo’s approach to Germantown’s direction.
Unsuccessful candidates ran on the platform of change and against the mayor’s administration.
Palazzolo was first elected mayor in 2014, after serving 12 years as a city alderman. He was elected to a second term in 2018, winning by 120 votes over challenger and then-alderman John Barzizza.
Palazzolo showed no remaining funds in his most recent campaign financial disclosure last February after donating money to various city and school groups. In 2018, he reported he had $5,611 left over from campaign contributions and an outstanding loan to himself worth $6,500.
