Shelby County reports 1,395 cases of coronavirus over weekend

Shelby County Health Department reported 1,395 new cases of the novel coronavirus Sunday morning, Dec. 27.
The new cases include 752 from Saturday and 643 from Sunday. The Health Department did not issue a report Saturday, Dec. 26, citing a data outage following the Christmas Day explosion in Nashville.
Shelby County has reported 65,408 cases since early March.
Saturday cases come from a reported 5,868 tests, a daily positivity rate of 12.8%. An additional 4,577 were included in Sunday’s data, and the positivity rate from those is 14%.
The Shelby County Health Department reported two new deaths for a total of 841.
An estimated 57,706 people have recovered and 6,861 cases are active.
Shelby County Health Department does not update hospital data on weekends. The most recent hospital data is from Wednesday, Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. At that time 564 patients in area hospitals were being treated for COVID-19 and 154 of those were in intensive care.
Patients occupied 92% of staffed acute care and 95% of ICU beds. There were 20 available ICU beds.
The Tennessee Department of Health reported a statewide daily increase of 3,188 cases Sunday for a total of 564,080 since March. It also reported 69 new coronavirus-related deaths for a total of 6,512.
An estimated 48,227 people have recovered.
The state has also begun reporting vaccine distribution information. So far, 53,258 people in Tennessee have received one of the two doses of the vaccine.
