Coronavirus: More than 100 new cases reported again

The Shelby County Health Department reported more than 100 new coronavirus cases Wednesday, March 10.

It reported 106 new coronavirus cases and two new coronavirus-related deaths on Wednesday.

Those 106 cases come from 1,866 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 5.7%.

According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 126,825 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 60,402 people have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses.

And 187,227 total doses have been administered in Shelby County.

In alignment with the Tennessee Department of Health, the Shelby County Health Department added more high risk conditions to phase 1c of vaccinations. They are permanent household members age 16 and older living with pregnant women, people age 16 and older with Down Syndrome and people age 16 and older with progressive neuromuscular diseases such amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis or muscular dystrophy

Those 106 cases come from 1,866 tests, giving the day a positivity rate of 5.7%.

Shelby County’s reported coronavirus total is now 89,055 cases, including 86,375 inactive cases (recoveries), 1,151 active cases and 1,529 deaths.

There were 168 COVID-positive patients in area hospital beds as of 5 p.m. Monday, according to the Tennessee Healthcare Resource Tracking System.

According to the HRTS, 91% of area ICU and 87% of area acute care beds were in use.

About 17% of patients in area ICU beds were COVID-positive (58) or suspected of having the coronavirus (6). About 5% of patients in area acute care beds were either COVID-positive (110) or suspected of having the coronavirus (23).

And 35 area ICU and 309 area acute care beds were available.

Bed capacity is calculated by subtracting beds occupied by patients, unstaffed beds and beds that are otherwise unavailable.

The capacity figures are inclusive of all hospital facilities in Shelby, Tipton and Lauderdale counties in Tennessee as well as facilities in Crittenden County, Arkansas, and DeSoto County, Mississippi.

The Tennessee Department of Health releases statewide coronavirus figures at 2 p.m. daily.

As of Tuesday, March 9, Tennessee’s reported coronavirus total is 785,242 cases, including 11,588 deaths, 678 current hospitalizations and 760,910 inactive cases (recoveries).

About 6,903,828 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Tennessee.
