Angela Sarwar, whose harrowing foreign trip while unvaccinated was reported in The Daily Memphian, has changed her mind.

Angela Sarwar told The Daily Memphian she got vaccinated on Saturday and texted a photo of her vaccine card.

The Sarwars traveled to St. Lucia, a country with a Level 3 advisory warning during a pandemic despite being unvaccinated. Last week, Angela Sarwar said that even after everything that happened to her and her husband Tony Sarwar, she wasn’t going to get the vaccine.

“I’ve never had a flu shot in my life either and no one makes a big deal about that,” she said last week. “I trust my immune system and trust my body to do what it’s supposed to do for the most part. I feel like if I’d just gotten some Tylenol and rest I would’ve been OK.”

On Monday, she said her husband convinced her to take the shot since her bout with COVID-19 left her with antibodies, and that was her concern about taking the vaccine. She said she told her husband: “If it makes you feel better at this point, then I’ll do it.”

Tony Sarwar said he will get vaccinated when he is fully recovered.

Angela and Tony Sarwar tested positive for COVID-19 while they were in St. Lucia. Both of them had to be hospitalized and the ensuing ordeal ended with the couple spending more than $50,000 to get back to the United States.
