Rachel Heck is taking aim at another big career achievement.
Beginning Monday, Aug. 8, at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington, the former four-time state champion from St. Agnes will be competing in the U.S. Women’s Amateur.
Now a junior at Stanford, Heck lost in 19 holes to eventual champion Jensen Castle in last year’s Amateur in Novato, California, after finishing at 8-under 136 to claim medalist honors in qualifying.
Heck, 20, will tee off from No. 10 at 2:33 p.m. CST in a group that also includes Wake Forest’s Emily Miglicaccio and Japan’s Tsubasa Kajitani.
After two rounds of stroke play, the 156-player field will be cut to 64 for match play beginning on Wednesday.
At fourth in the world rankings, Heck is the highest-ranked player in this year’s field.
After arguably the most successful career in the history of Tennessee high school girls golf, Heck hasn’t slowed down much since arriving at Stanford.
In the 2019-20 season, she became just the third player to sweep conference, region and national tournaments, and she has represented the United States in Curtis Cup competition in 2020 and 2021.
Last year, she also won the Honda Award and the Annika (Sorenstam) Award presented to the nation’s top golfers.
In May, she signed the first Name, Image and Likeness deal with Nike Golf.
As an eighth-grader at St. Agnes, Heck finished runner-up to her sister Abby in the Division 2-AA state tournament in Manchester, Tennessee, before reeling off four consecutive titles. She played those eight rounds in a combined 28-under par.
