Germantown’s Judge Raymond Clift Jr. is retiring, effective Sept. 1, after more than four decades on the suburban bench.
Clift has served as a Germantown judge since 1982. He was reelected to an eight-year term two weeks ago as part of the Aug. 4 election, but the board appointed an interim a few days later as he took a leave of absence. Earlier this month, Kevin Patterson was named interim judge to help alleviate the work load of the city’s other judge, Robert Brannon.
Clift served as the state’s assistant district attorney from 1970 until 1972. He was elected as a Germantown alderman in 1978 and served a two-year term as the board looked to establish its staggered-term cycle.
Per the city charter, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen will appoint a replacement who will serve two years until a judge is elected in 2024. The position will be advertise and the replacement will be formally voted upon at a future meeting.
