Topgolf confirmed Thursday, Dec. 15, what’s long been known — the golf entertainment company is coming to the Bluff City.
The company officially announced its plans in a press release, adding it will bring 300 jobs to the area.
“Bringing Topgolf to Memphis is something our administration has been actively working on for a long time now,” Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said in the release. “Adding this renowned family entertainment venue will be a tremendous asset for our city, and I know the community is excited to get this project moving.”
The official announcement is not a surprise. Topgolf representatives unveiled their plans for the Land Use Control Board in April and received approval. In late October, the site was sold from Melanie Smith Taylor’s family to Franklin Land Associates and Brentwood-based GBT realty. Construction began about the same time.
The two-story site will include 72 hitting bays with heaters to ensure players are enjoying their visits during the winter months. A full-service restaurant and event rooms are also In the works.
Topgolf Memphis is expected to open in November 2023. It is the fourth Tennessee location following Nashville, East Ridge (near Chattanooga) and Farragut (near Knoxville).
Significant activity is underway at the site. Shrubbery has been cleared and dirt is being moved. Beams also arose from the ground over the weekend.
Signs for Chicago-based ARCO/Murray National Construction Co. are on the site. The company is Topgolf’s national construction partner.
