Christmas is coming, bells are jingling, halls are getting decked, the goose is getting fat and it’s time to start shopping for presents.

You could overthink your gift list, endlessly scrolling the big Bezos website only to end up panic-ordering those strangely ubiquitous whiskey stones for your brother-in-law or yet another scented candle for your mom. Or you could listen to this edition of Sound Bites.

In this episode, Bianca Phillips, Natalie Van Gundy and I go through our lists of food-inspired gift ideas. Think special bottles of locally distilled bourbon, a cute tea-party experience, international snack packs and Memphis-made treats.

It’s a solid gift guide, I think, because it’s a nice mix of local goods, consumable gifts (less clutter!) and nice keepsakes, each inspired by a love of food, cooking and dining.

Van Gundy has creative suggestions for gifts for kids and fun foodie experiences, Phillips has the rundown on specific cookbooks and adult beverages, and I suggest some Memphis delicacies along with my favorite pandemic-era purchase.

The second edition drops Monday, Nov. 20, and contains the The Daily Memphian’s official gift guide. It’s full of fun Memphis-centric gift ideas that have been personally chosen by Daily Memphian staffers.
