DeSoto County Schools will spend $2.6 million on its school resource officer program for the 2024-25 school year, according to an agreement the district made this month with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department.

Altogether, DCS is expected to spend more than $4 million on resource officers for the school year. A representative of Superintendent Cory Uselton said the additional costs will cover an increase in officers and the per-officer expenditure.

The district spent about $3.2 million on the program during the 2023-24 school year.

“We were very pleased with the service provided by our school resource officers for the 2023-24 school year,” Uselton said. “We are very thankful for the partnership that we have with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department and our municipal police departments, and we look forward to the continued teamwork and enhanced coverage moving forward.”

While the contract is with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department, the district will also sign agreements with the Hernando and Olive Branch police departments.
