MATA may lay off half its staff
The Memphis Area Transit Authority may lay off about half of its employees in an effort to balance its budget, according to MATA’s interim CEO Bacarra Mauldin.
“We are literally having to right-size this agency,” Mauldin said.
The transit operator has more than 500 employees. Mauldin said they are looking to reduce that number to about 275.
“If we don’t get any additional funding, this is absolutely what is on the horizon for us,” Mauldin said.
