Construction on a 240-room Embassy Suites planned at the Landers Center should begin this fall, Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite told the city’s Board of Aldermen during a meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Southaven officials have long dreamed of turning the venue into one of the most competitive convention centers in Mississippi. A hotel has always been key to that vision.
“These are strong words, but when this is done, it will be the most influential development in the history of DeSoto County to this point,” Musselwhite said of the $84 million expansion project approved for the Landers Center.
Musselwhite confirmed Tuesday that the land deal is expected to close by October, allowing groundwork to begin early next year. He said the project will start growing vertically after that.
