A fiesta is coming to FedExForum.

TacoNGanas will soon be serving their popular birria-style tacos at the arena.

TacoNGanas owner Greg Diaz said they will be taking over one of the main stands when you walk in the front door of FedExForum, one that was formerly a burrito concept run by the building. Diaz said plans include eventually having several additional food kiosks scattered through the building.

On the menu will be TacoNGanas’ well-known birria-style steak and chicken tacos.

“This is double-fold for me. It’s exciting to be in the FedExForum of course, but it's also the first time that a Latino-owned business will be in this building,” Diaz said.

To celebrate, TacoNGanas has planned a Wednesday, Aug. 28, block party on the plaza in front of FedExForum from 4 to 6 p.m. Expect live music, a guest appearance by Grizz (the Grizzlies mascot) and free tacos.

TacoNGanas has exploded since it first opened its original food truck in early 2020.

Today, TacoNGanas operates 16 food trucks in seven locations throughout town. In addition to FedExForum, three more locations are set to open by the end of 2024.

What makes TacoNGanas’ Mexican street tacos unique is each taco is served in a corn tortilla dipped in a spicy oil prepared with dried peppers.

And while TacoNGanas is a for-profit company, it was started to fill a need.

“Food has always come easy for me. My mother ran a chain of restaurants in Mexico City,” said Diaz, who is also a pastor. “I bought a police SWAT truck and turned it into a food truck to help support our nonprofit Nueva Direccion. This gave us a way to feed the kids. We would give them free tacos.”

In the past four years, proceeds from TacoNGanas have been used to help expand Nueva Direccion’s programs and fund the move to a newer building.

“TacoNGanas is 901 made. We love this city and the community, and we can’t wait to celebrate this news with the city of Memphis,” Diaz said.

The FedExForum location is expected to be open in time for preseason basketball games.
