Two alleged nightclub shooters, two vastly different bonds

Two shootings at local nightclubs this month have left eight people injured. But those accused of carrying out the shootings have received distinctly different treatment in court.
Frank Clemons, 26, accused of firing shots outside Focuz Lounge on Aug. 4 and injuring four patrons, remains in jail on a $1 million bond.
Detawn Gunn, 30, charged in a parking lot shooting at Railgarten on Aug. 16 which also left four injured, was released from jail with no bond at all.
Gunn’s release has outraged many, including state Sen. Brent Taylor and the Shelby County District Attorney General Steve Mulroy, two people who often find themselves in opposition. On Wednesday, Aug. 28, Mulroy filed a petition to have Gunn’s case reviewed by a higher court.
Experts say various factors, including issues with witnesses, can lead to a lack of consistency among defendants during bond settings.
