Lakeland commission approves Town Square additions

Some of the final pieces of the $100 million Lakeland Town Square mixed-use project on U.S. 70 are coming into focus.
The Municipal Planning & Design Review Commission on Thursday, Oct. 10, approved site plans for a new multi-use pavilion, a gelato stand and 30 townhomes at the development.
“It’s coming along, and it should create a fairly nice sales tax base,” said developer Vince Smith, who previously estimated the project should generate more than $400,000 annually in sales taxes for Lakeland.
The new additions will complement an area that already includes 240 apartments and a growing amount of occupied commercial space.
