Lakeland board considers traffic-calming roundabouts
“The intersection design has to change because we have needed improvements that have to be done to realign the interchange, which would happen at the intersection and not going back into the scenic corridor,” Commissioner Jim Atkinson said. (Mark Weber/The Daily Memphian file)
Roundabouts have been a hot topic in Lakeland in the past year, and discussions about the traffic-calming designs are rising again.
On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Lakeland Board of Commissioners decided to defer a vote on a contract with Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. for the design of a roundabout at Seed Tick and Memphis-Arlington roads after Commissioner Connie McCarter brought some history of Seed Tick Road to the board’s attention.
The meeting also featured a discussion and possible action item related to land at Lakeland Town Square promised to the city for municipal use.
