Germantown had several options to consider in changing the mayor’s responsibilities, clearly defining the duties and thus requiring full-time attention.

After considering the choices, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen chose a referendum regarding the change, placing the matter in the hands of voters.

Germantown board split on full-time mayor

Germantown has a part-time mayor — Mike Palazzolo — but the day-to-day oversight falls to City Administrator Jason Huisman.

“The people have been governed one way for 50 years. Now they have the option to decide how they want to be governed the next 50 years,” Alderman Jon McCreery said.
