Collierville pays off MSCS settlement early, freeing up funding

Collierville Schools has an additional $500,000 available in this upcoming budget because the town paid off its part of a settlement with Memphis-Shelby County Schools a year early.
The exact amount is $507,819, and for the last 11 years, Collierville has paid MSCS that installment annually as part of a lawsuit settlement after the six Shelby County suburbs formed their school districts. The payments were to cover the various school buildings, once under the county system, when the campuses were transferred to the suburban systems.
