Jigsaw: On track

The nation’s No. 1 triple-jumper Miles Nesmith recently talked The Daily Memphian reporter John Varlas about how he achieved that status.

At the recent Houston Track Classic, Nesmith took first in three other events. He won the high jump (6-6), the long jump (23-7.25) and ran a leg on the Central High Warriors’ 4 x 100 relay team that finished in 42.02. All stellar performances in their own right.

But the triple jump is what sets Nesmith apart.

“He’s a great kid,” said Rashad Haynes, coach at Central High, where Nesmith is a junior.
