Over the past half decade, there have been fewer speeding citations issued in Memphis but more traffic fatalities. In a three-day, four-part series, Jody Callahan takes a deep dive on the issue of speeding in Memphis, how it is and isn’t being policed, including the use of technology and experience of officers conducting traffic stops. Tomorrow, the series wraps up with a look at the impact of the problem on insurance.
In college basketball these days, it feels like there’s a new team of players to get to know each season. But one newbie on the University of Memphis men’s team this coming season will be familiar to plenty of local hoops fans: Curtis Givens III, a Memphis native who played for Memphis University School early in high school, before finishing up at an out-of-town prep school and then spending his first college season at LSU. Givens has transferred back to Memphis and will suit up for the hometown Tigers this coming season. Parth Upadhyaya takes a closer look at this prodigal son.
