Once again this season, The Daily Memphian will be spotlighting a high school boys basketball player of the week.

And we still need your help.

Each Monday, we’ll list candidates from the previous weeks games and fans can vote on their pick for the week’s top player. Thanks to our partnership with OrthoSouth, player of the week stories will now be free to access, with no payment or subscription required to vote for the Fans’ Choice Player of the Week.

Voting ends at 5 p.m. each Thursday.

Our staff will also choose a player of the week — the OrthoSouth Grizzlies Player of the Week.

Some weeks we may agree; some we may not. But we still want the fans to make their voices heard.

Here are the candidates for Week 3, which includes games played through Dec. 13.

Jaelyn Blackwell, FACS: Blackwell scored 30 points — including 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range — while adding six rebounds and four assists as the Crusaders picked up a region victory over Lausanne on Dec. 9, 67-63.

Anthony Carrick, Hillcrest: The Vikings advanced to last season’s Class 1A state title game and are looking poised to make another good run this year — despite considerable roster turnover. Much of that is due to the play of Carrick; the city’s leading scorer finished with 26 points, five assists and three steals in a 68-44 victory over Sheffield that improved Hillcrest’s record to 8-1.

Bo Echols, MUS: Echols, a 6-foot-9 senior, scored 22 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and pulled down 11 rebounds to spark the Owls to a 73-64 victory over Millington on Dec. 9.

Damian Henderson, St. Benedict: After opening the season with eight consecutive defeats, the Eagles picked up their first victory on Dec. 11, beating Middle College, 59-38. Henderson led the way, scoring 20 points and grabbing six rebounds. The 6-foot-3 senior was 8-of-10 from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

Jordan Myers, Freedom Prep: Myers had a strong all-around game against City University on Dec. 9 — with his final bucket being the biggest. The senior hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to finish with 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 45-43 win.
