Standouts from Houston, Bartlett win Player of the Week fan vote
The voters have spoken. And they have chosen Justin Frison and Reaghan McAdory as this week’s OrthoSouth Fans’ Choice high school basketball Players of the Week.
Frison, a junior at Houston, is one of three finalists for the Class 4A Mr. Basketball award, and he played like one in his team’s 70-61 victory against Arlington in the semifinals of the District 15 tournament on Feb. 21
He finished with 30 points, six rebounds and eight assists and closed the game by scoring or assisting on 14 of Houston’s final 17 points in the closing minutes. It was a performance that earned him 45% of this week’s total.
Second place, at 38%, went to Harding’s Fred Martin, who averaged 24.5 points and 10.5 rebounds as the Lions won the Division 2-A West Regional tournament. Fayette-Ware’s Cash Williams was third, followed by Larry Benson of Memphis Business Academy and Whitehaven’s Ja’Michael Mitchell.
McAdory, who garnered 53% of the girls’ total, is a reserve on a strong Bartlett team. But she stepped into a starring role against Arlington in the District 15 tournament, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds as the Panthers rolled to an 83-30 semifinal victory.
Arlington’s Zaria Moss was second, followed by Jaliyah Kelly of Collierville and Briarcrest’s Kendall Jones.
Frison, Kelly earn staff honors
Our staff agrees with the voters on Frison and he will also be honored as our OrthoSouth Grizzlies Player of the Week. Our girls honor will go to Kelly, who put up 18 points, four rebounds and three assists to lead her team to a 61-42 victory over rival Houston in the District 15 semis.
A new round of voting begins on Monday.
