More funding needed for MATA, transit advocates say

Better Transit for a Better Memphis organizers on Monday, June 29, said more funding for the city’s transit agency is needed.

The organizers called on city and county officials to more adequately fund the Memphis Area Transit Authority. The Memphis City Council passed a budget last week that did not include any extra funding to the $32 million Memphis Mayor Paul Young proposed.

That total is up from $30 million last year, but organizers on Monday said that isn’t enough.
