Memphis actors are featured in a feature film released on Netflix on June 19.
Writer and director David Fortune received $1 million to create his “Color Book” film in 2023 via the AT&T Presents Untold Stories Program. The film premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.
The evocative black-and-white film follows a newly widowed father, Lucky (William Catlett), as he takes his 11-year-old son, Mason (Jeremiah Alexander Daniels), to his first baseball game. Mason has Down syndrome.
The film is set in metro Atlanta. It’s rated R for language.
Memphis-native actor Brandee Evans, known for her role as Mercedes in “P-Valley,” portrays Tammy, Lucky’s wife and Mason’s mother. Memphis rapper and actor Nakia Shine Coleman (aka Kia Shine) portrays Rico, a friend of Lucky and thereby Mason.
