Geoff Calkins has been chronicling Memphis and Memphis sports for more than two decades. Calkins has been named the best sports columnist in the country five times by the Associated Press sports editors, but still figures his best columns are about the people who make Memphis what it is.
Not long after 7 a.m, Yara Haliburton waited her turn.
Yara, age 7, is a patient at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her grandfather Marvin said she is doing just fine thanks to the miraculous doctors at the place.
But Wednesday morning, Yara was a “Little Looper,” an honorary caddie in the FedEx St. Jude Championship Pro-Am.
