Once again this season, The Daily Memphian is recognizing a high school football player of the week.

And we need you — our readers — to help.

Each Monday, we post several of the top performers from the previous week’s games. Readers can vote for their favorite until Thursday, Sept. 10, at 5 p.m., at which point the winner will be announced.

Here are the candidates from Week 3.

Brighton running back voted player of the week

Quentious Bland, Overton: Bland turned in the top rushing game for an area player so far this season in his team’s 30-6 victory over Oakhaven. The junior rushed for 251 yards on just 15 carries while scoring on runs of 23 and 61 yards.

Nate Brick, CBHS: The sophomore added to his ever-growing reputation with a terrific performance against Lausanne. Brick completed 13 of 16 passes for a school-record 331 yards and three touchdowns as the Brothers rolled, 48-21.

Octavius Flynn, Briarcrest: The Saints made program history in Week 3; their 42-17 victory over Nashville Ensworth was their first win ever against one of the mid-state’s perennial contenders. Flynn was the star; the junior ran for 177 yards on just 16 carries and scored second-half touchdowns on runs of 16, 27 and 46 yards.

Connor Jones, Lakeland Prep: Jones, a 5-11, 170-pound senior, caught six passes for 170 yards with two touchdowns as the Lions won their second straight after a Week 1 loss, 35-8 over Millington. More impressively, he moved into 14th place on the state’s all-time career receptions list with 159.

Ford Lamar, St. George’s: Defense has been the key to the Gryphons’ fast start; they’ve shut out all three opponents so far. But Lamar has been excellent as well and was again against FACS, completing 12 of 14 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-0 victory.
