Lakeland proposes new design standards for U.S. 70, Canada Road

Lakeland officials are proposing new, stricter design standards for U.S. 70 and Canada Road, two of the suburb’s most prominent corridors.
The Lakeland Municipal Planning and Design Review Commission on Thursday, Sept. 10, unanimously passed a recommendation to the suburb’s Board of Commissioners to create design overlay districts for the two areas.
With land along the two major routes still to develop, Lakeland wants to make sure that the future matches with the character preferred by the city, while also considering the opinions of nearby residents.
