New stores and development signify a growing Millington

Millington’s commercial market is growing with some new spaces and preservation of one old spot that had fallen dormant in the past decade.
Academy Sports + Outdoors is opening a 55,000-square-foot location next month at 8400 Wilkinsville Road, one block east from U.S. 51. That business, along with a planned Target, not only is expected to help Millington’s economy and tax base but also provide a growing number of jobs in the city.
“The store looks great,” Millington City Manager Frankie Dakin said Wednesday about Academy’s 18th location in Tennessee.
