“Governor, the COVID-19 emergency has long passed in Tennessee,” state Rep. Jason Zachary wrote. “We ask that you direct the Tennessee Department of Health to halt distribution, promotion or recommendation of COVID-19 vaccines for our youngest Tennesseans.”

Due to glitches with the state’s VRAS vaccine signup program, Shelby County has reverted to SignUpGenius to schedule appointments, Mayor Jim Strickland announced.
“There are more than 100 qualified providers who can do vaccinations across Shelby County,” said City of Memphis COO Doug McGowen. “We made an allocation to 50 providers yesterday. Next week, 14,000 (doses) will go to those 50 providers.”
The regular Monday session of the commission will be followed by a special Friday meeting with Tennessee Health commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey on problems that led the state to shift control of COVID vaccine distribution from the county to the city of Memphis.
According to the latest Shelby County Health Department data, 111,145 people in Shelby County have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose; 47,919 people have received both COVID-19 vaccine doses, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
Offerings include two pop-up locations at local churches. Beginning Wednesday, Feb. 24, teachers, child care providers and people 65 and older are eligible to be vaccinated and may sign up for appointments.
The Raleigh vaccination site will open next week at Greater Imani Cathedral of Faith.
As the public continues to voice its frustration with the local COVID-19 vaccine process, Shelby County Health Department Director Alisa Haushalter says she understands the frustration and that the ‘buck stops’ with the Health Department. Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris declined to comment.
