As manufacturers scrambled to resume operations in 2021 following shutdowns across several industries the year before, truckers were in demand.
“I had a customer come pick up his ‘21 model Hyundai Palisade to drive it around with no rear bumper because we’ve had it since February,” said one body shop owner. “Nobody can even tell us when the bumper is coming.”
To help alleviate a supply-chain hardship that could last well into 2023, the Memphis-based logistics company pursues Mexico operations, something it hasn’t had since 2010.
“He always wanted the best people to take care of his business. You know what? If you get the best people, you don’t have to worry about execution. He knew that if we executed, we would get another opportunity,” son Bill Dunavant said.
Supply chain disruptions have made it more expensive to buy some consumer products. Other goods, when they can even be found, are taking longer to get delivered to buyers.
