The old museum at Mud Island River Park is transitioning from a story about the Mississippi River to an immersive experience called “Baron Von Opperbean and the River of Time.”
The museum is slated to become an immersive experience built around the riverboat models that were its centerpiece. It began with some high-tech touches when it opened, and Sidney Shlenker had plans beyond those touches.
More than 4,000 people had a chance to walk, crawl and climb through artist Christopher Reyes’ 2020 immersive exhibit at Off the Wall Arts. Now, Baron Von Opperbean is coming to Mud Island.
Dan Conaway: While we ignore Mud island, we’re giving Tom Lee Park more plastic surgery than the attendees at the Academy Awards, and if we’re going to make the Fairgrounds ours, the Coliseum has to be part of it and original thinking is required.
The museum has been closed to the public during the COVID-19 pandemic while the Mud Island River Park has been open to visitors.
