June playlist: Black Music Month
Black Music Month is a good time to honor local musicians including hip-hop artist Al Kapone (in a file photo), says guest columnist Elizabeth Cawein. “In many cases,” she said, “the things we’re most proud of are borrowed (to use a kind word) from Black culture, almost always created by Black Memphians. Think about it the next time you’re singing ‘Whoop That Trick’ with Al Kapone at a Grizzlies game during a heated fourth quarter comeback.” (Jim Weber/Daily Memphian)
