Shelby County unemployment rates tick upward in October

Shelby County’s unemployment rate rose slightly for the month of October, according to the most recent statistics released by the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

During the month of October, Shelby County posted a 4.4 percent unemployment rate, up slightly from September’s 3.8 percent mark.

According to the data, the majority of Tennessee’s 95 counties experienced a drop or no change in unemployment rates.

Williamson County boasted the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.7 percent for the second straight month, while Davidson and Rutherford counties both posted an 2.9 percent unemployment rate in October.

On the other end of the spectrum, Lauderdale County had Tennessee’s highest unemployment rate in October at 6.8 percent, up from 6.5 percent in September, followed by Bledsoe County’s 6.1 percent.

Across the state, seasonally adjusted rates unemployment also slightly rose last month to 3.7 percent, mirroring the national unemployment rate, which held steady for the second consecutive month at 3.7 percent.
