Tomato prices spike as weather, supply chains squeeze growers and retailers

Tomato prices are rising sharply across Memphis and beyond, driven by a combination of weather disruptions, supply chain challenges and rising costs from farm to store.
A new national brand launch underscores the shifting dynamics in the produce market. Pluck’d, a U.S.-grown tomato company, is entering the market at a time when global sourcing pressures and transportation costs are pushing retailers and consumers to look closer to home for produce, according to the Associated Press.
But for Memphis retailers and farmers, the current reality is more immediate: higher prices and tighter supply.
