Cold Stone Creamery opening in Cordova
A Cold Stone Creamery is opening at 2323 N. Germantown Parkway in Cordova.
The 1,649-square-foot ice cream shop will cost $320,000 to build, with new walls, ceilings, finishes, HVAC, food equipment and more, according to a permit filed with the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development.
Fadi Abdallah, who is a partner with his brother, the franchisee, said the store will open in late March or early April.
Abdallah said he and his brother, who franchised three Marcos Pizzas in the area, considered many different ice cream and dessert franchises before choosing Cold Stone.
“We’re hoping that it will be a success,” Abdallah said. “As a consumer, going out there looking for ice cream options, there’s not that many.”
The brothers originally had an interest in Cold Stone after a family member in Chicago, who has owned a location for years, recommended it.
There are many ice cream flavors, including seasonal flavors. This month all stores are featuring pumpkin ice cream.
After customers choose a flavor, the server places it on a cold stone slab, folding the chosen mix-ins inside the ice cream.
Abdallah said they hope to open more locations but only signed a contract for one.
“Of course, we would love to open more locations in the Memphis area,” Abdallah said. “We think it’s a great market, but it all depends on how this store goes.”
Zopita’s on the Square closed
After more than three months on the market, Zopita’s on the Square at 114 N. Main St. in Collierville has closed.
Owners Anna and Charlie Palazola put the restaurant and brand up for sale, hoping someone would continue the business. According to a social media post, they decided to sell due to health challenges and to “prioritize (their) well-being.”
This past week, everything in Zopita’s was for sale, including furniture, equipment and what was left in the freezer.
“Thank you for your continued support and understanding,” the post read. “We’re truly grateful for every customer who has walked through our doors.”
