Las Americas needs volunteers for an event in Hickory Hill on Friday morning, April 17, distributing food to 1,000 families.

The volunteers will gather at 7 a.m. in the parking lot of Mid-South Christian College, 3097 Knight Road.

Crisis in charities: Needs soar as donations fall

The Mid-South Food Bank will have delivered to the site pallets of vegetables, fruits, meats, breads and other foods. Volunteers will arrange or package enough food to feed each family for a week or two.

Later Friday morning, recipients will drive to the site, open their vehicle trunks and volunteers will place the food into the trunks.

Last week, the line of vehicles waiting for the distribution to begin – at about 10:45 a.m. – stretched 2.5 miles.

Las Americas, which serves Latino families, and the Mid-South Food Bank will continue the events each Friday for the next several weeks.

Anyone interested in volunteering may contact Daisy Diaz at daisy@lamemphis.org.
