Shelby County reports 17 new COVID-19 cases, 1 death

The Shelby County Health Department reported 17 additional COVID-19 cases and one new virus-related death on Saturday, Nov. 7.
Shelby County’s 17 new coronavirus cases came from 797 test results, yielding a 2.1% positivity rate. Test results, however, are not reflective of the previous 24-hour period and include tests over multiple days.
Overall, the Health Department has reported 39,048 total coronavirus cases and 583 deaths, classifying 36,049 cases as inactive/recovered. Active cases in Shelby County stand at 2,416, a decrease from Friday’s total of 2,681.
There were 314 COVID-19 patients in Memphis area hospitals as of 5 p.m. Thursday, according to Tennessee’s Healthcare Resource Tracking System. The Health Department will provide hospital information for Friday through Sunday in Monday’s daily update.
Of the 314 people hospitalized, 212 are in acute care beds, with 102 in intensive care unit beds.
Hospital capacity for acute care beds is at 90% use, and ICU beds are at 90% occupancy. Those who are COVID-positive or suspected of having the virus represent 11% of acute care patients and 29% of ICU patients.
